Silicone rubber tooling has been used for traditional prototyping and even
short production runs for about 30 years. Now, silicone rubber mold making
materials are used in conjunction with rapid prototyping processes. As a
leading supplier, Dow Corning has acquired vital expertise applicable to rapid
prototyping. Products specifically suited for these applications are
addition-cure (platinum-cure) mold making rubbers where dimensional tolerance
is critical.
Silastic® T-2 and Silastic T-4 are translucent addition-cure mold making
silicone featuring excellent dimensional stability. Silastic® M is a high
durometer mold making silicone for applications where dimensional tolerance and
mold rigidity are critical. Silastic® V is a high strength mold making silicone
in the medium durometer range and is recommended for prototyping applications
where dimensional tolerances and flexibility are critical.
Product Selection
Selecting the right product is often a difficult task. Nature, complexity
and selected material for the replicas must be taken into account. Information
in the Product Finder will help guide your selection. The final decision on
products and additives can often be made only after practical tests.
